As you can see from my work history below, I have had a full working life since leaving school at 16 years old. It's been mainly enjoyable, but there have been a few lulls in which I've not enjoyed what I was doing. My ideal job would be one in a relaxed atmostphere and related to something I'm interetsed in. So below are details of all teh jobs I've been in and things I've done.

 

Employer: NHS Manchester

Position: IT Service Desk Analyst

Length of time: October 2006 - Present

Location: Manchester, United Kingdom

Description: IT Service Desk for NHS Manchester

Provided 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support to approximately 5500 staff across 260 locations.

  • Support ranged from common user problems to more complex resolutions with desktop support and ad-hoc training provided for Windows XP and MS Office 2002/2003/2007 applications, NHSMail and bespoke clinical applications, Internet and VPN, Printers and scanners, McAfee Endpoint Encryption (Safeboot), and Information Governance (handling of patient data) issues.
  • Provided support to the IT department for the Service desk applications and trained new Service desk staff in procedures and support knowledge.
  • Worked with Service desk Lead to implement and configure new Service desk management software.
  • Created documentation of commonly provided technical fixes and created knowledgebase.
  • Produced reports about Service desk statistics.
  • Wrote communiqués to staff about upcoming outages.
  • Worked closely with internal and external engineers to ensure that all jobs are completed within their SLA.
  • Acted as liaison between Service desk and Senior Engineers

Employer: The Official Red Dwarf Fan Club

Position: Team Member

Length of time: September 2005 - December 2007

Location: Hitchin, United Kingdom

Description: My main duty in the club was to manage the club's online presence. I looked after the club's web sites and web mail system, along with moderating their online forums.

I wrote articles for, and helped to develop, the club's almost-quaterly magazine.

I helped run two very successful Red Dwarf conventions (Dimension Jump).

Employer: Halfords

Position: Logistics

Length of time: In September 2006

Location: Bury, United Kingdom

Description: Dealt with the transportation of stock between various North West locations

Employer: Styles & Wood Limited

Position: Helpdesk

Length of time: October 2005 - September 2006

Location: Altrincham, United Kingdom

Description: Helpdesk, Deskside support.

  • Taking calls, and logging jobs in the helpdesk software, and resolving a lot of them.
  • Setting up new user accounts in Active Directory along with relevant mailboxes in Exchange. This along with adding Terminal Services Profiles and the creation of relevant directories
  • Set up each user's own Databank (CMS) account.
  • Remotley fixed issues at various office and site locations.
  • Set up users Citrix profiles
  • Configured laptops with the company specific settings and installed applications.
  • Configured HP and WYSE terminals for use with Citrix on construction sites and later at the new Head Office building.
  • Assisted with the set up of new terminals and printers at the brand-new office location and migration of old kit from the old location.

Employer: Yates Group Ltd

Position: IT

Length of time: February 2003 - October 2005

Description:

  • Designed, developed and maintained the Yates Group corporate intranet site
  • Desk side support at the head office location at Peter Yates House in Bolton.
  • Remote support of all bars and remote office locations.
  • Hardware, software installation for both Desktop and Server computers

Employer: Big W (Woolworths)

Position: Cash Office, Trading Standards, Cafe

Length of time: December 2001 - February 2003

Location: Bolton, United Kingdom

Description:

  • Cash Office: Collecting cash from the tills at various points during the day. Counting and banking large amounts of cash and vouchers.
  • Trading Standards: Performed price checks to ensure that all stock on the shelves was prices correctly and ensure that customers were paying the correct price.
  • Cafe: Served customers with goods. Cooked food on available on the menu. Ensured effective stock rotation to allow for least shrinkage. I also worked in the 'pot wash' and made sure the crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils were clean. I started a GNVQ in Food Hygiene but left the post before completion.

Position: Web Designer

Description: Worked with other designers to design, develop and implement various web sites for Bolton Council and other companies.

Employer: CompuPar and Compu-IT

Position: Web Designer / Developer

Length of time: 1999 - September 2001

Location: Bolton, United Kingdom

Description: Designed and developed the company's own web sites, and web sites for clients. We hosted their web sites and email from our office location on a Windows NT Server.

I was also involved in setting up training rooms for the various courses being run. From installing software Operating Systems to bespoke software.

Employer: Littlewoods Retail (Croal Mill and Holden Mill)

Position: General Worker

Length of time: February 1996 - January 2001

Location: Bolton, United Kingdom

Description: Outsorts was my main role. Returned items not able to be sorted by the clerks where put to one side and it was mine and Dave's job to sort them out. Being a General Worker I was shunted all over the place and did various jobs. I was seconded to Holden Mill during the summer.

Location: Bolton, United Kingdom

Description: Here I was taken on as a Dental Assistant. I worked in the acrylics and chrome department creating prosthetic dentures (false teeth). I cast models of teeth, created duplicated models, attached models to articulators. masked up models with wax, creating dentures - mainly for chrome dentures. I cast Chrome and Gold dentures along with Gold-plating chrome dentures.

Description: I was in the post room unloading 40ft trailers of returned goods, both hardware and clothing.
