A wet walk to Jubilee Tower from Bromley Cross (13/09/2019)

Actual route

Sunday morning I got up early for another walk with my friends. I drove round to Iain's who lives in Bromley Cross. What he didn't tell me was his house was not the "official" start of the walk he had planned lol. I said it counted as the start as it was a mile we had to walk a mile before his "official" start!

So at 10 am we set off from Bromley Cross. We walked up to Egerton, through Dimple, and then past Delph Reservoir. We then walked through Hole Bottoms, over Longworth Moor.

Walking past the back-side of Belmont Reservoir watching people sailing their boats (I've never seen the reservoir from this side before). Then along Catherine's Edge and past Old Man's Hill. Made our way up to Turn Lowe where we sat down and had lunch. There were a couple of benches by a stone wall where we sat, ate and drank. It was quite chilly too, so not my favourite part of the walk.

Just behind us, we found a sign with a memorial to Tragedy on the moors

Setting off, after a bite to eat, we walked past White Hill (ironically the same height as Jubilee Tower). We continued over the Duckshaw Clough onto Darwin Moor. We found some Grouse Shooting Butts and spent a good while inspecting them. From there we made our way across Darwin Hill to Jubilee Tower where we had our traditional shots of alcoholic beverage - usually Whiskey - but this time Iain had Apple Sourz. In my case, because I'm Sober for October I had a shot of 7up 😁

We then descended to Sunnyhurst where we officially ended the walk at the pub. 9 miles almost exactly. I was aching.

We walked into Darwin after the pub - where we all broke from tradition and had a soft drink. The heavens opened once again and we were very wet. It was a good job we all had our waterproofs on. We waited for a bus to take us back into Bromley Cross. Walking hadn't finished as we had to walk back to Iain's, where I had the best cup of tea ever 👍🏻

By the time I got home, I found that we'd walked 12 miles. Oh, and don't I know it lol. My heels are absolutely killing me 🤣
