Footpaths are for Wimps - Wuthering Heights hike - Tuesday 28th February 2023

There was only Iain and myself again on this walk. We started off at Haworth Central Car and Coach Park at around 10:10 am.

Heading up to the dam at Lower Laithe reservoir, we crossed the dam into the village of Stanbury and walked past the Wuthering Heights pub. With it being about 10:30 am it was closed.

We then followed the Pennine Way and walked up Hob Hill and along Back Lane.

We continued to the Top Withens ruins, a former farmhouse that the Wuthering Heights novel was based. We had lunch in the bothy which was the part of the former farmhouse that was still standing. I had the idea of playing Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights. Hmmm, I bet that's not been done before lol.

We then followed Rough Dyke, where we had our summit whiskey (which we forgot to have at Top Withens), and down to Brontë Bridge and Brontë Water Falls. The bridge was cool, but I was a tad disappointed with the waterfall. It was more of a water dribble.

After that, we followed the path back to the reservoir but we went over Penistone Hill. This brought us next to the All Angels Cemetery. The church is where Emily Brontë is buried in the family crypt (apparently). Then we called in at the Kings Arms for refreshments. Iain liked that the local beers were named after the Brontë family. The pub and courtyard are adjoined to the Brontë Parsonage which is where she lived and wrote Wuthering Heights, I believe.

Iain tried a beer called Emily, He did actually wanted an Anne, but this wasn't on 🤣

I would have tried an Emily too. Didn't like the sound on the Anne. I stuck to my old faithful, a John Smith's. This is where we terminated our walk and it was 8.6 miles.
