Isaac Butterfield: Why So Serious? [Manchester, 22/09/2019]

I've just got home from a great night of comedy. Although I ended up going on my own I still had an amazing evening. I've had my tickets for this gig for over a month and I've been looking forward to this even since before that.

I found Isaac Butterfield by accident. Well, Google must have thought I'd like his as he showed up on my YouTube Recommended list. It's been 5 months or so I've been watching his videos on YouTube since and I just find this guy refreshing. After I saw one video I was hooked, I went back and watched a LOT of his previous videos. Almost daily he releases videos too.

Anyway, I learnt over the months that this guy is not just a YouTuber, he's a fully-fledged comedian over in Australia. He announced his World Tour and I knew I just had to get tickets as he was coming to Manchester!

So tonight arrived; I caught the train to Manchester, then a tram to Deansgate. I'd never been to the Comedy Store before so didn't really know what to expect.

As I'm Sober For October and not drinking alcohol, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, I wasn't as lubricated or relaxed as I could have been should I have had a few beers inside me 😆

So, there I was drinking water but I really wanted to be part of the show as I think audience participation is brilliant. I sat on the front row - so close my knees touched the stage lol. I was loving it.

A comedian who had emigrated from Canada to Manchester warmed us up with his comedy routine first. My brain is rubbish so cannot for the life of me remember what his name was (sorry). He was very funny though 😊

Issac then came on to the stage and proceeded to tell stories, jokes and interact with the audience. He's a master at this and dealt with a few hecklers too - it's a skill!

I was laughing all night, and then came my bit. He asked a question and I stuck my hand in the air as did others. This is when I began to panic a little. He went to other people and I thought I'd got away with it. Oh no, I didn't, lol. He asked me the question directly and I froze for a second, my heart was beating so hard. Stage fright! Nerves overcame me and I answered in the negative. I don't think it was the answer he wanted as it kinda killed his joke. He did recover very well though. I did feel bad about that for the rest of the show. Still, the rest of the show was hilarious so I was still laughing my head off 🤣 - may have been a totally different outcome if I wasn't sober.

I'm not going to give anything away about what his jokes, stories, anecdotes were, you'll have to book tickets and go and see him. Well worth the money 👍🏻

After the gig, he was selling his merchandise in the bar area and having photos with everyone. Isaac is a true gentleman and such a nice guy. Blimey is he tall though! I met him, had my photo and apologised for messing his joke up. He was totally cool about it along with with a bit of banter - which I love.
