Footpaths are for Wimps - The Goyt Valley - Tuesday 17th January 2023

I’ve not been walking in a few years with my friends and this was an opportunity to get out and get my boots back on.

Iain had organised the route which was around the resovoir in Goyt Valley nr Buxton.

I was first there in the morning. I set off from my house early and it was dark and -3⁰C. It's a good job I left early as the motorway was rammed with traffic.

It was still -3⁰C when I arrived at The Goyt Valley car park. Because it was so cold, the single track road down into the valley was covered in black ice. It was a bit scary when I pressed my break and I just slid down the hill 🤣 I thought, “hope I can get back up this hill later”.

Iain was another half hour and Zach was stuck in traffic and was another hour after that!

The walk was a gentle flatish walk around 6 miles. We walked around the reservoirs and chatted and had a right good catch-up. I'd not been out with the walking group in just under 3 years.

My legs were aching at the end of the walk. I was knackered.

After the walk we always end up having a pint at the nearest pub. Trouble was that the nearest pub was back up the single track icy road lol. My poor car stuggled a little 🤣 Luckily I had friends there to assist if I needed it.

We sat next to the real fire in the Ram’s Head and I had a pint and then soft drinks. I had some fries and Iain and Zach had full meals. I was so knackered and I could have quite easily fallen asleep next to the fireplace. It was lovely.

I'm looking forward to the next walk.
