Footpaths are for Wimps - Winter Hill - Tuesday 31st January 2023

I met up with Iain at 10 am at Dunscar Bridge through the Smithills estate. Up to Winter Hill transmitting station (where your TV signal comes from). We saw the Manx Air Crash Memorial. (see pictures below). We had our summit Rum and then walked over the Summit Stone/Trig Point. On our way, we went past a Memorial of George Henderson Traveller (see photo). We walked down the summit past Ward's Reservoir (aka The Blue Lagoon - what locals call it) and called in for a quick pint at The Black Dog for a pint-pitstop. This was meant to be George Henderson's destination, but he never arrived.

Leaving The Black Dog we crossed over the road through a street down to Belmont Bleachworks. Walked along the road over a stile across a field to Ornamental Reservoir. We followed Belmont or Eagely Brook on an extremely muddy path back to Dunscar, past the golf course to the Cheetham Arms where we had refreshments and sampled a packet of The Snaffling Pig Co. - Pig of Doom (Ghost Chilli Pork Crackling) which turned out to be a mistake lol. My mouth is still on fire as I type this 😂

Knackered after the 17.6 kilometres (10.9 miles) walk we stayed for a few more drinks and food, which was delicious.
