Pub #7: Sanctuary, Town Centre

I’ve never set foot in Sanctuary before, and it’s certainly a place of two halves. The ground floor operates as the main bar, while the upstairs area functions more as a club venue, hosting live bands—though it doesn't open until 10 pm.

The aesthetic is immediately striking. It's a deliberately dark space, painted in a stark combination of black and red. This theme is carried through with red leather couches, a pool table sporting red felt, and, most bizarrely, a black coffin repurposed as a drinks table. What really captured my attention, however, were the prices.

For a dedicated rock bar, I wasn't surprised they didn't serve wine—the clientele don't exactly look like sommeliers, do they? Nevertheless, they stocked my drink of choice, a Guinness at a very reasonable £3.80. My companion, Gemma, had a Rum and Diet Coke, which cost £4.50.

Overall, I found myself quite liking the atmosphere in Sanctuary. While it probably wouldn't be my first port of call, it's definitely a solid spot, especially if you're deeply into the rock scene.
