Pub #9: The Royal Dyche, Culvert
I have a confession to make: this is my absolute favourite pub in Burnley, and I haven't the faintest idea why. I’m certainly not a even football fan—not at all, really—but something about this place just sticks. It is a football pub, named after the iconic former Burnley manager, Sean Dyche. Walk inside, and you'll find every inch of the walls and ceiling draped with Burnley FC memorabilia. For any die-hard fan of the Clarets, this is surely a pilgrimage site.
The entertainment here is always solid. Being a Saturday night, there’s a DJ on the decks tonight, but we've been here loads of times when they’ve had excellent bands playing in the dedicated area at the back. They've even gone the extra mile by constructing their own miniature Longside—one of the famous stands at Turf Moor—built right onto the side of the pub. That level of dedication really shows what this place is all about. As a little bit of trivia to impress your mates with: it's a little-known fact that King Charles III is actually a fan of Burnley FC! You never know who you might be having a pint next to.
Now, onto the truly important stuff: the prices. You won't be breaking the bank for a few rounds here. A perfectly poured pint of my Guinness only set me back £4.50, and a small bottle of Pinot Grigio is a very reasonable £3.50. It's still a proper cheap night out, which is always a bonus.
